Circuit Description

The theft deterrent module (TDM) checks memory to see if the Learn Coded Key setting is ON. If so, the theft deterrent control module sets this DTC.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:

DTC B3031 Security System Controller in Learn Mode

Conditions for Running the DTC

    •  The ignition switch is in the ACCESSORY or RUN position.
    • DTC B1325 03 or B1325 07 is not current.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

If the Learn Coded Key setting is ON, the TDM sets this DTC.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The TDM will learn the key code. The security indicator will be illuminated for this DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

The TDM clears the current status of the DTC when it does not see the Learn Coded Key setting as ON. The DTC will still be retrieved as current until the ignition switch is cycled OFF and then to ON. The DTC will then become a history DTC.

Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

  1. To set this code, a key with a working transponder was read by the TDM. For that key to operate the vehicle, a 10-Minute or 30-Minute Re-Learn Procedure must be performed.

  1. Using the scan tool, clear the DTC.
  2. Important: If a 10-Minute Re-Learn Procedure is performed, all keys not learned at that time will be erased and will not be recognized. Perform the Adding Keys procedure on all keys or instruct the customer how to perform the Adding Keys procedure. Refer to Adding Keys .

  3. Perform the 10-Minute Programming Theft Deterrent System Components procedure. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components .

Important: If a 10-Minute or 30-Minute Re-Learn Procedure is performed, all keys not learned at that time will be erased and will not be recognized. Perform the Adding Keys procedure on all keys or instruct the customer how to perform the Adding Keys procedure. Refer to Adding Keys .

    • If the original vehicle keys are being reused, perform the theft deterrent module (TDM) setup prior to TDM replacement. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components .
    • If new vehicle keys are being used, performing the TDM setup prior to TDM replacement is not required.

Replace the TDM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
