Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Verify that the door ajar indicator malfunction is present.

Does the door ajar indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Is the door ajar indicator ON all the time?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter in the body control module (BCM) data list.

Does the scan tool display Door Ajar?

Go to Step 5

  1. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate Door Ajar Switch parameter in the BCM data list.
  2. Disconnect each of the door lock harness connectors, one at a time.

Does the scan tool display change to Door Closed when any of the door lock harness connectors are disconnected?

Go to Step 12

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Open all of the doors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the appropriate door ajar switch parameter in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display Door Ajar?

Go to Step 11

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate door lock harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the front door ajar switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock harness connector and a good ground.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.

Does the door ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Test the appropriate front door ajar switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock harness connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 17

Test the ground circuit of the appropriate door lock harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the appropriate front door ajar switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate door lock. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
