Shock Absorber Replacement Sedan

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the rear knuckle to remove spring tension.

  4. Object Number: 1236981  Size: SH
  5. Remove the lower shock bolt.

  6. Object Number: 1617637  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper shock bolt (1).
  8. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the shock in the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1617637  Size: SH
  3. Install the upper shock absorber to body bolt (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 90 N·m (66 lb ft).

  5. Install the shock absorber to knuckle bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  7. Remove the jack stand from the rear knuckle.
  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Shock Absorber Replacement Extended Sedan

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the rear knuckle to remove spring tension.

  4. Object Number: 1236981  Size: SH
  5. Remove the lower shock bolt.

  6. Object Number: 1386845  Size: SH
  7. Remove the upper shock to body nuts.
  8. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Place the shock in the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1386845  Size: SH
  3. Install the shock absorber to body nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1236981  Size: SH
  5. Install the shock absorber to knuckle bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  7. Remove the jack stand from the rear knuckle.
  8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Lower the vehicle.
