Rear Spoiler Replacement Sedan
Removal Procedure
Notice: Use of harsh chemicals when cleaning can damage exterior lamps. Suggested
cleaners are a mild soap and water, or Varnish Makers and Painters (VM&P)
Naptha. VM&P Naptha is a specific type of naptha and should
not be substituted by any other naptha.
- Open the rear compartment.
- Remove the nuts from the spoiler.
- Using a heat gun, apply heat in a circular motion to the rear spoiler mounting locations from the inside for about 30 seconds, 152 mm (6 in) from the surface.
- Use a small flat-bladed tool to lift the spoiler from the rear compartment lid. Do NOT damage the paint.
- Remove the spoiler from the rear compartment lid.
- Use 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover, disk 3M™ P/N 07501 or equivalent, to clean the adhesive from the rear compartment lid and from the spoiler.
- Use VM&P Naphtha, or equivalent, to clean the body panel.
Installation Procedure
- Use a heat gun to heat the rear spoiler mounting surfaces.
- Remove the backing from the adhesive on the spoiler mounting locations.
- Position the studs of the spoiler into the clearance holes of the rear compartment lid.
Important: Do not touch the adhesive backing.
- Apply even pressure to the spoiler to allow for proper adhesion to the rear compartment lid.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the nuts to the rear compartment lid spoiler.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Close the rear compartment.
