Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System

Always perform the Vehicle Diagnostic System Check before proceeding with these diagnostic procedures. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.

One Speaker Inoperative

Important: The following information lists the most probable cause of the concern to the least probable cause. If the list leads to the replacement of a component, always inspect for a poor connection before proceeding with replacement. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With RPO UW4 and UZ6

    • Speaker output open -- Test the appropriate speaker output circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • No audio output from the radio -- Disconnect speaker harness connector from speaker. Turn On the radio and adjust volume approximately 50 percent. Measure the AC voltage across the speaker harness connector terminals. Replace the speaker if AC voltage is present. Refer to Radio Front Side Door Lower Speaker Replacement , Front Upper Speaker Replacement , or Radio Rear Speaker Replacement .
    • If no A/C voltage is present, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
    • Perform the VIN Relearn procedure with a scan tool. On the scan tool, go to Module Replacement/Setup in Vehicle Control Systems and select Radio.

With RPO UK6 (Rear Speakers Only)

    • Speaker output open - Test the appropriate speaker output circuits between the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) module for an open. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits between the RSA module and rear speaker for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • No audio output from the RSA module - Disconnect the speaker harness connector from one rear speaker. Turn ON the radio and adjust volume approximately 50 percent. Turn OFF the RSA power switch. Measure the AC voltage across both terminals of the speaker harness connector. Replace the speaker if AC voltage is present. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement .
    • No AC voltage is present - Disconnect the RSA module connector. Bypass the RSA module by connecting two fused jumper wires between the appropriate speaker output circuits from the radio and RSA module. Turn ON the radio. Replace the RSA module if sound is heard from the rear speaker. Refer to Rear Seat Audio Control Replacement . Replace the radio if no sound is heard from the rear speaker. Refer to Radio Replacement .
    • After replacing the radio, perform the VIN relearn procedure with a scan tool. On the scan tool, go to Module Replacement/Setup in Vehicle Control Systems and select Radio.

With RPO U32 (Rear Speakers Only)

    • No audio output from the DVD player - Turn ON the radio. Turn OFF the DVD player. With a scan tool, observe the rear speakers relay command parameter. Replace the DVD player if the parameter displayed is Speakers Off. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement . Go to next step if the displayed parameter is Speakers On.
    • Speaker output open - Test the appropriate speaker output circuits between the radio and DVD player for an open. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits between the DVD player and rear speaker for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • No audio output from the DVD player - Disconnect the speaker harness connector from one rear speaker. Turn ON the radio and adjust volume approximately 50 percent. Turn OFF the DVD player. Measure the AC voltage across both terminals of the speaker harness connector. Replace the speaker if AC voltage is present. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement .
    • No AC voltage is present - Disconnect the DVD player connector C1. Bypass the DVD player by connecting two fused jumper wires between the appropriate speaker output circuits from the radio and DVD player. Turn ON the radio. Replace the DVD player if sound is heard from the rear speaker. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement . Replace the radio if no sound is heard. Refer to Radio Replacement .
    • After replacing the radio, perform the VIN relearn procedure with a scan tool. On the scan tool, go to Module Replacement/Setup in Vehicle Control Systems and select Radio.

Speakers - One Channel Inoperative

Important: The following information lists the most probable cause of the concern to the least probable cause. If the list leads to the replacement of a component, always inspect for a poor connection before proceeding with replacement. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: The following procedure assumes all speakers are operative for all modes of operation except digital radio.

With RPO U2K

    • Audio signal circuit open - Test the appropriate audio signal circuit between the radio and digital radio receiver (DRR) for an open, short to ground, or short to battery. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • No audio output from the DRR - Measure the voltage from the DRR audio signal circuit with the radio ON. Replace the DRR if no voltage is measured. Refer to Digital Radio Receiver Replacement and Digital Radio Receiver Setup .
    • No audio input to the radio - Measure the voltage from the radio audio signal circuit with the radio ON. Replace the radio if voltage is measured and symptom is still present. Refer to Radio Replacement .
    • After replacing the radio, perform the VIN Relearn procedure. On the scan tool, go to Module Replacement/Setup in Vehicle Control Systems and select Radio.

With RPO U32

    • Audio signal circuit open - Test the appropriate audio signal circuit between the radio and DVD player for an open, short to ground, or short to battery. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
    • No audio output from the DVD player - Measure the voltage from the DVD player audio signal circuit with the radio ON. Replace the DVD player if no voltage is measured. Refer to Video Disc Player Replacement .
