Exhaust Muffler Replacement Sedan LS,LT, Maxx LT

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. If equipped with a 2.2L (L61) engine, remove the intermediate pipe to muffler nuts.



3. If equipped with a 3.5L (LX9) engine, remove the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.



4. With the aid of an assistant , remove the muffler from the hangers.

Important: Replace the muffler hangers any time the exhaust system is removed from the vehicle. Do not use any mineral oil based lubricants or sharp tools when installing new exhaust system hangers.

1. With the aid of an assistant, install the muffler to the hangers.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




2. If equipped with a 3.5L (LX9) engine, remove the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).




3. If equipped with a 2.2L (L61) engine, install the intermediate pipe to muffler nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

4. Lower the vehicle.

Exhaust Muffler Replacement Sedan SS, Maxx SS

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .



2. With the aid of an assistant, remove the muffler from the hangers.



3. Remove the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
4. Remove the muffler assembly.

1. With the aid of an assistant, position the muffler assembly.



2. Install the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
3. Install the muffler insulators to the hangers.
4. Lower the vehicle.

Exhaust Muffler Replacement Sedan LTZ, Maxx LTZ

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.



2. Remove the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.



3. With the aid of an assistant, remove the muffler from the hangers (Maxx shown, Maxx SS similar).
4. Remove the muffler assembly.

1. With the aid of an assistant, position the muffler assembly (Maxx shown, Maxx SS similar).
2. Install the muffler insulators to the hangers.



3. Install the rear catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
4. Lower the vehicle.
