The engine control module (ECM) uses the inputs from the brake fluid pressure sensor to monitor and control the hill start assist function. The EBCM receives a serial data message to command the HCU valves closed to maintain the applied brake pressure when the vehicle is stopped. The ECM will command the EBCM to open the valves and release the pressure after the engine restarts.
• | Engine is running and vehicle speed is above 40 km/h (25 mph). |
• | DTCs C1102, C1103 or vehicle speed DTCs have not set. |
• | The transmission is in the drive position. |
• | Engine is running. |
• | This diagnostic runs continuously. |
• | Engine is running. |
• | The condition exists above 40 km/h (25 mph). |
• | The ECM detects a short to ground or open with the brake fluid sensor signal circuit. |
• | The condition exists for more than 30 seconds. |
• | MIL is illuminated. |
• | ABS warning indicator is illuminated. |
The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.

⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
