Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Caution in the Preface section.
Important: The inner reinforcement (1) is a martensitic steel and cannot be sectioned or altered. Refer to the Ultra High Strength Chart.
Failure to replace any damaged reinforcement as described could compromise
the structural integrity of the vehicle.
- Remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area as necessary. Refer to
Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
.
Important: Note the number and location of the factory welds for installation of reinforcements.
- After the outer panel is removed to gain access to rocker, the center pillar reinforcement must be removed (1).
- The front hinge pillar must be removed (2).
- Remove the lower quarter reinforcement (3).
Installation Procedure
Important: If the location of the original plug weld holes cannot be determined, space the plug weld holes every 40 mm (1 1/2 in) apart.
- Prepare the mating surfaces as necessary.
- Apply GM approved weld-thru coating or equivalent. Refer to
Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
.
- Position the rocker reinforcement in place, use 3-dimensional measuring equipment, clamp in place.
- Plug weld accordingly.
