* DTC sets when shorted to B+

** DTC sets when shorted to 5 volts

Circuit/System Description

The lateral accelerometer and the yaw rate sensor are combined into one sensor external to the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) uses the lateral accelerometer input when calculating the desired yaw rate.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The EBCM detects a short to B+ or a short to ground on the 5-volt reference circuit.
    •  The EBCM detects a short to B+ on either the yaw rate signal circuit or the lateral accelerometer signal circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

One or more actions may occur:

    • The EBCM disables the 5-volt reference circuit.
    • The EBCM disables the traction control system (TCS)/VSES for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • The EBCM may send a serial data message to illuminate the appropriate indicator/message there is a brake problem.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the yaw rate sensor/lateral accelerometer harness connector.
  2. Ignition OFF for 60 seconds, test for less than 15 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 6 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  6. Verify the scan tool Yaw Rate Sensor Signal parameter is greater than 5.2 volts.
  7. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal 3 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the low reference circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Yaw Rate Sensor Signal parameter is less than 0.5 volt.
  9. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  10. Verify the scan tool Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Signal parameter is greater than 5.2 volts.
  11. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  12. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the low reference circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Lateral Accelerometer Sensor Signal parameter is less than 0.5 volt.
  13. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
  14. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the yaw rate/lateral accelerometer sensor.
