Catalytic Converter Replacement LAT

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.



2. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1).



3. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).
4. Separate the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter studs.
5. Position and support the exhaust pipe out of the way.
6. Remove the catalytic converter and gasket.

1. Install the catalytic converter along with a NEW gasket to the exhaust manifold.
2. Position and join the exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter studs.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the catalytic converter to muffler nuts to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).




4. Install the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

5. Install the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.

Catalytic Converter Replacement LE5 With MH8

Caution: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Caution in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement.
2. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
3. Raise and suppore the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
4. Remove the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.



5. Remove the catalytic converter to muffler nuts (1).
6. Separate the exhaust pipe (2) from the catalytic converter studs.
7. Position and support the exhaust pipe (2) out of the way.



8. Remove the converter to bracket bolt (1).
9. Remove the catalytic converter (2) and gasket. Discard the Catalytic converter gaskets.

1. Install a NEW gasket to the catalytic converter.
2. Position the catalytic converter (2) to the exhaust manifold and converter bracket.
3. Loosley install the converter to manifold nuts (3) and converter bracket bolt (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

4. Tighten the Converter to bracket bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).



5. Install a NEW gasket between the converter and exhaust pipe (2).
6. Connect the exhaust pipe to the converter and tighten the nuts (1) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
7. Install the heated oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.
8. Lower the vehicle
9. Tighten the converter to manifold nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
10. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement.
