Squeak Itch Noise from Front of Headliner and Upper Roof Panel Near Sunshades (Install Flocking Tape)

Some customers may comment on a squeak itch noise from the left and/or right front headliner and upper roof panel near the sunshades.

This condition may be caused by the lack of insulation on the two front foam support blocks used between the headliner and the roof panel.

Lower the front of the headliner trim panel and install flocking tape to the front left and right headliner trim panel foam blocks using the steps below.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
2. Remove the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
3. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement in SI.
4. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement in SI.
5. Loosen the overhead console retainer clip from the roof panel. Refer to Roof Console Replacement in SI.
6. Remove the center pillar upper moldings. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
7. Remove the sunroof finishing lace. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in SI.
8. Remove the front and rear door weatherstrips from the upper door frames around the headliner trim panel.



9. Lower the front of the headliner trim panel down to gain access to the two front foam blocks (1).
10. Cut two pieces of Kent® BRS Tape, KT 13487 (flocking tape) or equivalent, to 85 mm (3-3/8 in) width by 112 mm (4-1/2 in) lengths.




Important: Make sure the flocking tape is installed on the top of the foam block and completely wraps down the front and back of the foam block as it may contact the sunroof frame track and roof panel when the headliner is reinstalled.

11. Install a piece of the flocking tape to the left front foam block by wrapping the entire block starting on the top of the block and covering the complete back and front of the foam block as shown in the graphic above.
12. Install the second piece of the flocking tape to the right front foam block as done previously in Step 11.
13. Reinstall the headliner trim panel and seat overhead console assembly clip.
14. Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement in SI.
15. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement in SI.
16. Install the windshield garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
17. Install the center pillar upper moldings. Refer to Center Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
18. Install the sunroof finishing lace. Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement in SI.
19. Install the front and rear door weather strips to the upper door frames.

Purchase BRS tape from Kent-Automotive or equivalent flocking tape from a local supplier.
