Subject: | High Pitch Whistle Noise From the B Pillar |
Models: | 2008 Chevrolet Malibu (new body style) |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some 2008 Malibu (new body style) vehicles may have a high pitch whistle noise that is noticed on higher blower speeds. The whistle noise will typically sounds like it coming from around the front doors/"B" pillar area. The noise may change pitch as the blower speed is changed.
This noise is caused by air passing through two holes in the sheet metal of both driver and passenger front doors.
Remove the front door trim panels on both driver and passenger sides. Locate the two small (square cut) unused holes at the rear of the front door inner panel. Install a piece of tape to cover these holes, and reinstall both of the front door trim panels.
After both door panels are reinstalled adjust the HVAC blower motor speeds up and down to evaluate the noise complaint again.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
