Subject: | Gap at Rear Edge of Front Floor Console Shifter Trim Plate (Modify Rear Clip Towers) |
Models: | 2008 Chevrolet Malibu |
Some customers may comment on a gap at the rear edge of the floor console shifter trim plate.
This condition may be caused by interference between the console trim plate rear clip towers and the center floor console assembly. The rear clip towers may not allow the rear trim plate clips to seat, creating the gap.
Remove the front floor console trim plate and modify the two rear clip towers using the steps below.
Important: Release the shifter boot from the shifter knob by pulling the boot retainer down in order to gain access to the shift knob front retaining screw.
Important: Do not remove the entire clip tower or the trim plate may slide inside the console slot. Remove 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 in) from the outer radius (1).
Important: When installing the trim plate, make sure you push the trim plate completely forward so no gap is created between the trim plate and the I/P dash. Engage the front clips on the trim plate first, then seat the rear clips.
