Generator Replacement LE5

1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
3. Disconnect the generator electrical connector (1).
4. Reposition the rubber boot (3).
5. Remove the engine harness terminal lead to generator nut (2).
6. Remove the engine harness terminal (4) from the generator stud.



7. Remove the generator fasteners (1,3, 4).
8. Remove the generator.

1. Position the generator to the engine block.
2. Install the generator fasteners (4) loosely.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

3. Install the fastener (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
4. Install the fastener (3) and tighten to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).
5. Tighten the fasteners (4) to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).



6. Install the engine harness terminal (4) to the generator stud.
7. Install the engine harness terminal lead to generator nut (2) and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
8. Position the rubber boot (3) over the stud.
9. Connect the generator electrical connector (1).
10. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
11. Connect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Generator Replacement LY7

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Reposition the positive battery cable boot at the generator terminal.
3. Remove the positive battery cable nut at the generator.
4. Remove the positive battery cable terminal from the generator.



5. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the generator.
6. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.



7. Remove the idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
8. Remove the generator bolts.

Note: When removing the generator from the vehicle, it may be necessary to maneuver the generator to remove it from the vehicle.

9. Remove the generator.

1. Position the generator to the engine.
2. Loosely install the generator bolts.
3. Install the idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Tighten the generator bolts in the sequence shown to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).



5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
6. Connect the engine harness electrical connector to the generator.



7. Install the positive battery cable terminal to the generator.
8. Install the positive battery cable nut at the generator and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
9. Position the positive battery cable boot at the generator terminal.
10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

Generator Replacement LZ4

Note: Service the generator as a complete unit.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
3. Remove the generator electrical connections.
4. Remove the generator mounting nuts and bolts.
5. Remove the generator.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the generator.

•	Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

•	Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

2. Install the generator electrical connections.
3. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
4. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
