Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptor
DTC B1019 00: System Configuration Error
Circuit/System Description
The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) runs continuous diagnostic tests on the restraints system. When the ignition is turned ON, the SDM will check to see if the correct components are installed for the vehicle configuration. If
the SDM detects that there are too few or too many components on the system, DTC B1019 will set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | The SDM was programmed with the wrong options for the vehicle. |
• | The wrong SDM was installed for the content of the vehicle. |
• | The SDM connector may have bent pins or shorting bars causing the SDM to learn deployment loops that are not actually present. |
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | The SDM requests the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to illuminate the AIR BAG indicator. |
• | The SDM disables all deployments. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The correct SDM must be installed. |
• | The correct components must be installed. |
Diagnostic Aids
If the SDM has been replaced, make sure that the correct part number was installed for this vehicle.

Circuit/System Testing
Important: When removing the connectors inspect for damage or corrosion. Damage or corrosion to the following requires repair or replacement of the affected:
• | PPS module wiring harness connector |
• | SDM wiring harness connector |
- With a scan tool verify the BCM is programmed with the correct VIN.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the SDM. Verify the connector is not damaged and has no bent or damaged pins, terminals or shorting bars.
⇒ | If damage is found, repair as necessary and perform the Setup New SDM procedure. |
- Connect the harness connector at the SDM.
- Ignition ON, verify the scan tool system configuration matches the components installed on the vehicle.
⇒ | If the system configuration is not correct, reprogram the SDM with the correct components. |
- Ignition ON, clear all Passenger Presence System (PPS) and SDM DTCs.
- Verify DTC B1019 does not set.
⇒ | If DTC sets, replace the SDM. |
Repair Instructions
Perform the
Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
