False OnStar Automatic Crash Response (ACR) - keywords intermittent phantomcalls radio xm xmradio

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Vehicles noted in the list above equipped with OnStar and XM, under certain conditions may initiate a false Automatic Crash Response (ACR) call to the OnStar Call Center. The cause of the unintentional calls is due to a software mis-calibration within the OnStar module causing a misinterpretation of data received from the Digital Radio Receiver, resulting in the call to the OnStar center. Upon receipt of ACR call the audio system will likely be muted and an OnStar advisor will ask if there is an emergency in the vehicle.

DO NOT replace the VCIM.

OnStar will perform an over the air programming fix to correct this condition on all vehicles manufactured prior to the change being implemented in vehicle assembly. Owners of vehicles not able to be reprogrammed will received notice from OnStar to have their vehicle service by an area dealer using a in-service bay re-flash, available in the near future.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
