Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the left drive axle assembly. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the snap ring from axle. Discard the snap ring. Do not reuse.
- Remove the output axle seal.
- Use the
J 41227
to remove the sleeve from the output axle.
Installation Procedure
Important:
• | The stub axle shaft sleeve and seal must be replaced together. DO NOT replace the sleeve or seal separately. |
• | Do not damage the seal bore or the sleeve assembly. Fluid leaks may result. |
Important: J 41102-1A
must be used in order to install the axle seal to the correct depth.
- Install a new output axle seal (3). Use
J 41102-1A
(2) with
J 8092
(1). Lubricate the seal lip with transmission fluid.
- Apply grease to the output shaft splines.
Important: J 41228
must be used in order to install the sleeve to the correct depth.
- Use
J 41228
to install a NEW sleeve on the output axle shaft.
- Install the collet into the output shaft snap ring groove with the collet attached to the threaded collet shaft.
- Place the NEW sleeve over the collet.
- Install the bearing and nut onto the threaded collet shaft.
- Hold the collet shaft while tightening the nut in order to press the sleeve onto the output shaft.
- Remove the
J 41228
.
- Install a NEW snap ring on the output shaft.
- Install the drive axle assembly. Refer to
Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Inspect the output axle shaft sleeve for leaks.
- Inspect the oil level. Refer to
Transmission Fluid Check
