1. Trunk release is inoperative from both the switch and keyless entry transmitter

2. Trunk release is inoperative only from switch

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) provides a low side drive output that controls the trunk relay. The BCM monitors the voltage level on the trunk release relay control circuit to determine when a failure has occurred. The voltage level on this circuit should be high while the trunk relay is not energized, that is; the trunk release feature has not been activated. Voltage will be near 0 volt when the relay is energized. When the BCM receives a trunk release signal from a switch or keyless entry transmitter, it responds by applying ground to the trunk release relay control circuit, which energizes the trunk relay.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3265 01

The BCM detects a short to battery in the trunk release relay control circuit when the output is active.

B3265 06

The BCM detects a short to ground or an open in the trunk release relay control circuit when the output is inactive.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM disables the trunk release relay control until the next ignition cycle.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
    • When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

B3265 06 will also set anytime the TRUNK fuse is open. Besides a short to ground on the relay coil B+ circuit or the relay switch B+ circuit, a short to ground on the rear compartment lid release actuator control circuit can cause the fuse to open.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the trunk release with a scan tool. The rear compartment lid release actuator should release the trunk lid.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the TRUNK relay.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 85 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the control circuit terminal 87 for a short to ground.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 86 and the B+ circuit terminal 85.
  5. Command the trunk release ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the TRUNK relay.

Component Testing

Relay

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the TRUNK relay.
  2. Test for 65-90 ohms between terminals 85 and 86.
  3. If not within the specified range, replace the relay.
  4. Test for infinite resistance between the following terminals:
  5. • 30 and 86
    • 30 and 87
    • 30 and 85
    • 85 and 87
If not the specified value, replace the relay.
  6. Install a 10 amp fused jumper wire between relay terminal 85 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal 86 and ground. Test for less than 2 ohms between terminals 30 and 87.
  7. If greater than the specified range, replace the relay.
