The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The customer might notice comment that the adjustable pedals are inoperative not adjusting as intended.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Here are some additional tips to use when diagnosing inoperative concerns with the adjustability of the adjustable pedals.

If the Adjustable Pedals are completely inoperative (pedal does not move at all) have the Technician check for a possible inhibit situation.

There may be condition due to a "step-over" fault where the adjustable pedal controller stops the system from adjusting. If the driver has applied a very high load with their foot to the brake while adjusting the pedals, it might be possible to trigger a step-over fault without there being anything wrong in the system. There is a caution about this in the owner's manual. By disconnecting and reconnecting the controller, this type of condition can be reset and the system will become fully functional again.

Important: The adjustable pedal module MUST be plugged in when measuring BCM inhibit voltage or you will get erroneous results.

The BCM can also inhibit adjustable pedals movement if it determines the ignition is ON and gear selector is not in PARK. A check for this type of inhibit can be done with Tech 2 using data display parameter for adjustable pedal inhibit ACTIVE. The Technician can also check for Voltage on Circuit 5980 Terminal G at the Adjustable pedal module with the module plugged in. The inhibit Voltage of this circuit is 11.2-12.8 volts. If you check this circuit and find that you have 1.0 or lower volts, the BCM is NOT inhibiting the adjustable pedals.

If the Adjustable Pedals energize and move the pedals slightly then shuts down, the adjustable pedal brake position sensor is not detecting movement of the system and the adjustable pedal module is disabling the system by removing the ground it applies to adjustable pedal switch.

Under this condition the technician should check to make sure the flex-shaft between the adjustable pedal actuator (on the accelerator pedal) and brake pedal is fully connected and the brake moves when the accel moves. Resynchronization of the brake and accelerator pedal positions to full rearward position is required if this cable is ever replaced. If cable connection looks OK then the wiring between the adjustable pedal brake position sensor and the adjustable pedal module should be checked.

Important: There are 2 Brake Pedal Position Sensors on the vehicle:

The Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Sensor is the sensor that is used to activate Stop Lamps, CHMSL and disable cruise. The BPP Sensor Calibration procedure used with this sensor has no effect on adjustable pedal function.

The other brake pedal position sensor is used only for the adjustable pedal function. It is read directly by the adjustable pedal module (non-serial data) and no data is available on Tech 2 for it. Also the wiring to the adjustable pedal brake position sensor should be checked.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
