Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles-Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve-Inspect/Replace - Expires with Base Warranty

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO ADD 2008 SATURN AURA VEHICLES. PLEASE DISCARD ALL COPIES OF BULLETIN 07311, ISSUED NOVEMBER 2007.

THIS SERVICE UPDATE INCLUDES VEHICLES IN DEALER/RETAILER INVENTORY AND CUSTOMER VEHICLES THAT RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP/RETAIL FACILITY FOR ANY REASON, AND WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLE'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD.

This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect and, if necessary, replace the Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) Valve on certain 2008 model year Chevrolet Malibu; Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura vehicles, equipped with a 3.6L V6 (RPO LY7 - VIN 7) engine.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer/retailer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership/retail facility for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in DealerWorld (US), or attached to the Dealer Communication (Canada), used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.

Important: Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the system below. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

Parts required to complete this service update are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Important: Due to the small number of vehicles involved and due to limited initial parts availability, dealers are encouraged not to order parts for use as shelf stock. Parts should only be ordered when inspection determines that it is necessary to replace the IMT Valve.

Saturn will not be doing a pre-shipment of parts for this bulletin. Please place orders for the required part as necessary from Saturn Service and Parts Operations (SSPO).

1. Open the vehicle hood and locate the IMT Valve (1) on the engine.

2. Compare the vehicle’s IMT Valve Code with the list of suspect codes of IMT Valves to be replaced*. Refer to table following this procedure.

*Refer to the GM Messenger (US) / Dealer Communication (Canada) attached icon List of Suspect Codes of IMT Valves to be Replaced. There is a total of 1,312 suspect IMT Valve Codes.

3. If the vehicle valve code matches any of the listed suspect codes, refer to the appropriate SI Service Procedure and replace the vehicle IMT Valve with a new Valve.
4. If the valve code does not match, do not replace the IMT Valve.
