Adm Msg - 2005 Malibu, Malibu Maxx May Have Loose Seat Back Panels

Subject:2005 Malibu, Malibu Maxx May Have Loose Seat Back Panels

Models:2005 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx

Attention: Sales and Service Managers

This message concerns some 2005 Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles in dealership inventory that were built before October 2004 that may have a loose seat back panel. As part of our efforts to deliver the best possible vehicles to our customers, it would be a good idea to give a slight tug on the seat back panel and check that it has been properly installed and is secure. This concern of loose seat back panels may be present on vehicles built before October. Specifically, the trim panel retainers may not be fully engaged to the seat frame resulting in the rear trim panels being loose. The seat back panel retainers may not be fully engaged to the seat frame. A vehicle’s build date (month and year) can be easily identified on the certification label located on the driver’s door. Please check that the front seat back trim panels are properly secured before allowing customers to test drive or take delivery of these vehicles. If the trim panel cannot be simply reinstalled and secured, contact GM Technical Assistance for further repair instructions.
