This PI was superceded to update model year to 2006. Please discard PIC3545.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
The ignition key won't come out of the ignition lock cylinder or the shifter will come out of park without depressing the brake.
Recommendation/Instructions:
The above condition(s) may be the result of a mis-adjusted park lock cable. The adjustment is made at the shifter end of the cable. A properly adjusted cable will have three (3) threads showing at the rear of the cable end. SI Document ID # 1246544 incorrectly shows a lock knob on the shifter end of the cable. In reality, the cable shaft end is threaded and threads into a clip-on bracket that mounts to the shift mechanism (see SI Document ID # 1246541)
Note: This is where the three (3) threads should be showing.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
