LOOSE/WAVY INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE R&R

SOME EARLY 1981 MALIBUS, MONTE CARLOS, & EL CAMINOS MAY EXHIBIT A LOOSE, POOR FITTING OR WAVY INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM PLATE. THE ATTACHMENT OF THE PLATE TO THE I/P WILL BE REVISED INTERIM 1981. THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE SHOULD BE FOLLOWED WHEN REPLACING THIS COMPONENT: 1.PROCURE NEW TRIM PLATE (REFERENCE CHART ON PAGE 2). REMOVE TWO (2) UPPER TABS TO RIGHT OF VENTILATION DUCTS, AS ILLUSTRATED ON PAGE 2. 2.REMOVE LOGO (EMBLEM) FROM ORIGINAL TRIM PLATE AND INSTALL ON REPLACEMENT (ATTACHING PUSH-NUT IS P/N 1479948). 3.INSTALL TRIM PLATE TO I/P, LEFT SIDE FIRST, SO THAT PLATE "SNAPS IN" ALONG UPPER & LOWER EDGES. 4.RIGHT SIDE RETENTION CAN BE IMPROVED, IF NECESSARY, BY ADDING TWO (2) 4.2 - 1.41 X 8 MM PAN HEAD CROSS RECESS TAPPING SCREWS (P/N 11501234 OR 9427302) AS ILLUSTRATED, TO INCREASE INTERFERENCE. DEFLECTOR MUST BE FREE TO ROTATE.
