This bulletin is being reissued to make a part number correction and provide additional information on 1982 vehicles equipped with 5.7L diesel engines and four (4) speed automatic transmissions.
1982 MODELS: New transducers are released for 1982 as listed below:
APPLICATION TRANSDUCER/VALVE ASSEMBLY
Chevrolet P/N 25031603 (two terminal)
Chev. Truck 6.2L Engine P/N 25031592 (two terminal)
These transducers incorporate a new orifice tube and valve assembly. Transducers with the new orifice tube and valve assembly are identified by a "black" transducer solenoid housing.
The following revised servo application information can be applied to 1982 5.7L diesel equipped vehicles exhibiting a cruise instability, hunting or surging condition.
Three Speed Automatic Transmission
Replace the 1982 servo (grey servo cover with four lb. return spring) with the 1981 OE servo (black cover with nine lb. return spring).
The service package for the 1981 servo with black cover is P/N 25030980.
Four Speed Automatic Transmissions
Replace the OE early production servo with the new service replacement servo package P/N 25031726.
(1) OE early production has a four lb. return spring while the new service replacement servo package has a six lb. return spring.
(2) The replacement service servo in package P/N 25031726 is coded AE.
(3) Both servos have grey covers.
1981 MODELS: The correct application data is listed below:
APPLICATION TRANSDUCER/VALVE ASSEMBLY
Chevrolet P/N 25030880 (two terminal)
Any 1981 transducer submitted to AC Delco repair stations, when remanufactured, will include a new orifice tube and valve assembly. This updated 1981 transducer assembly will be identified with a 1982 label. The blue solenoid housing, if found satisfactory, will be reused. The transducer/valve assembly, P/N 25030880, will then become a P/N 25031603.
The 1982 transducer, P/N 20531603, may be used as a service replacement for P/N 25030880. The transducers listed for 1981 usage will continue to be available for service.
1981 and 1982 Resume Valve Connector Cover
Connector cover breakage can occur during harness disconnection or in transit. Corrective engineering changes have been made to the locking tab stop.
Cover replacement can be made (instead of complete resume valve replacement) by utilizing service package 1984405 available from WDDGM or from AC Delco transducer repair centers. The service package consists of new cover, filter and instruction sheet.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
