Some 350 and 350C transmissions built from 1975 thru 1982 may experience a broken forward clutch housing (see illustration).
This condition is caused by excessive pinion pin run out in the output carrier resulting in no forward or reverse.
To correct, replace the broken forward clutch housing, P/N 360943. The input shaft can be pressed out of the old housing and reused.
Inspect for and replace all worn bushings with special emphasis on the input ring gear bushing, P/N 8641117.
The output carrier, P/N 1250023, must be replaced when making this repair to eliminate the possibility of a future recurrence.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
