CLICKING NOISE ACCEL/DECEL NEW FAST IDLE RELAY

Some 1983 Malibu, Monte Carlo, El Camino, Impala and Caprice cars may exhibit a "clicking" noise which may be heard on acceleration or deceleration when the heater control is in the "non" A/C or "non" defrost mode.

This noise can be eliminated by replacing the fast idle solenoid relay with a new fast idle solenoid relay which incorporates a sound deadening mount.

Replacement relays are:

P/N 14073412 for malibu, Monte Carlo and El Camino (see illustration 1).

P/N 14073412 for Impala and Caprice (see illustration 2).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
