RECEPTION ON THE AM BAND OF THE RADIO MAY BE INADEQUATE ON VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE OCTOBER, 1994.
1. INADEQUATE GROUND AT THE REAR FENDER MOUNTED ANTENNA BASE ASSEMBLY, CAUSED BY UNDER-TORQUING OF THE ATTACHMENT NUT. THE NUT MUST BE TIGHT ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE STAR WASHER BELOW THE SHEET METAL TO CUT THROUGH THE PAINT TO PROVIDE A GOOD GROUND.
2. ANTENNA LEAD-IN CABLE MAY NOT BE FULLY PLUGGED INTO THE RECEPTACLE AT THE BACK OF THE RADIO.
3. IN RARE INSTANCES, THE CRIMP ON THE ANTENNA LEAD-IN CABLE AT THE RADIO END MAY BE INSUFFICIENT, OR THE LEAD-IN MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED IN THE PLANT.
ALL THE ABOVE ITEMS WERE CORRECTED IN PRODUCTION AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10/1/94.
1. THE NUT ON THE FENDER ANTENNA MOUNTING BRACKET SHOULD BE TORQUED TO AT LEAST 10 N.M (90 LB.IN.).
2. CHECK THE ANTENNA LEAD-IN CONNECTION AT THE REAR OF THE RADIO. ON EARLY BUILT VEHICLES, THIS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY SEATED. IF IT IS LOOSE, PUSH IN UNTIL A CLICK IS FELT, INDICATING A GOOD CONNECTION.
THESE TWO CORRECTIONS SHOULD CORRECT MOST VEHICLES. IF THE CONDITION STILL EXISTS, REMOVE BOTH ENDS OF THE ANTENNA LEAD-IN CABLE, AND CHECK THE RESISTANCE WITH A DIGITAL OHMMETER. A GOOD ANTENNA SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE IN THE MILLI-OHM RANGE. IF THE RESISTANCE IS HIGHER THAN 10 MILLI-OHMS, REPLACE THE CABLE, P/N 10248598.
PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.
FOR VEHICLES REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, USE: LABOR OPERATION: R0240 (CHECKING ANTENNA BASE) USE PUBLISHED LABOR OPERATION TIME. R0260 (CHECKING OR REPLACING LEAD-IN) - PUBLISHED TIME WILL BE INCREASED TO 0.8 HRS.
