Camshaft Intermediate Drive Sprocket Installation for Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1996
- Lubricate the seal or the seal running surface of the intermediate shaft sprocket.
Important: Do not damage the intermediate shaft oil seal during intermediate shaft
belt sprocket installation.
- Install the sprocket into position on the intermediate drive shaft through
the oil seal.
- Engage the locating tangs on the shaft sprocket into the mating
sockets of the intermediate drive chain sprocket.
- Measure the distance from the front face of the intermediate shaft
sprocket to the front cover. If the measurement is more than 42 mm
(1.65 in), the tangs are not engaged.
- Lightly lubricate the intermediate shaft belt sprocket retaining
bolt and washer.
- Install the intermediate shaft belt sprocket retaining bolt onto
the intermediate drive shaft. Hold the crankshaft in order to prevent the
bolt from rotating.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
