Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
  3. Disconnect all of the spark plug wires at the coil. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the electronic ignition module electrical connections.
  5. Remove the spark plug wire loom retaining nut and bolt.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  7. Remove the starter motor. Lay it aside with the wiring intact. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  8. Remove the electronic ignition module. Refer Engine Controls.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Remove the oil level indicator.
  12. Remove the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  13. Remove the oil level indicator tube using pliers.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 57219  Size: SH
  1. Use the following procedure in order to install the oil level indicator tube:
  2. 1.1. Hand start the tube in the hole.
    1.2. Use a suitable tool in order to drive the tube into the engine block.
    1.3. Ensure that the tube is fully seated.
  3. Install the oil level indicator tube bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil level indicator.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to General Information.
  7. Install the electronic ignition module. Refer to Engine Controls.
  8. Install the starter motor. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the spark plug wire loom nut and the loom bolt.
  11. Connect the electric ignition module electrical connections.
  12. Install all of the spark plug wires to the coils. Refer to Engine Electrical.
  13. Install the left exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .
  14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Engine Electrical.
