Knock Sensor Replacement Left Bank

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
4. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.

Important: Do not apply thread sealant to the sensor threads. The sensor is coated at the factory. Applying additional sealant will affect the sensor's ability to detect detonation.

1. Install the knock sensor into the engine block.

Tighten
Tighten the knock sensor to 19 N·m (14 lb. ft.).

2. Reconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Knock Sensor Replacement Right Bank

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
4. Remove the Intermediate exhaust pipe
5. Remove the rack and pinion heat shield.
6. Remove the generator air cooling duct.
7. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
8. Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.

Important: Do not apply thread sealant to the sensor threads. The sensor is coated at the factory. Applying additional sealant will affect the sensor's ability to detect detonation.

1. Install the knock sensor into the engine block.

Tighten
Tighten the knock sensor to 19 N·m (14 lb. ft.).

2. Reconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
3. Install the generator air cooling duct.
4. Install the rack and pinion heat shield.
5. Install the intermediate exhaust pipe.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
