Knock Sensor Replacement Left Bank
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
- Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do not apply thread sealant to the sensor threads. The sensor is coated
at the factory. Applying additional sealant will affect the sensor's
ability to detect detonation.
- Install the knock sensor into the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the knock sensor to 19 N·m (14 lb. ft.).
- Reconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Knock Sensor Replacement Right Bank
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
- Remove the Intermediate exhaust pipe
- Remove the rack and pinion heat shield.
- Remove the generator air cooling duct.
- Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the knock sensor from the engine block.
Installation Procedure

- Install the knock sensor into the engine block.
Tighten
Tighten the knock sensor to 19 N·m (14 lb. ft.).
- Reconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.
- Install the generator air cooling duct.
- Install the rack and pinion heat shield.
- Install the intermediate exhaust pipe.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling and Radiator.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
