Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Control - 3.1L.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  3. Object Number: 412103  Size: SH
  4. Remove the compressor hose line nut (1) from the accumulator and position the line aside.
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.

  8. Object Number: 412103  Size: SH
  9. Remove the compressor hose nut (2) from the condenser and position the line aside.

  10. Object Number: 277924  Size: SH

    Important: Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.

  11. Remove the compressor hose bolt at the compressor.
  12. Remove the compressor hose assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the compressor hose assembly.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Lubricate the new O-rings and sealing washers with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  3. Install the new O-rings onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  4. Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly.

  5. Object Number: 277924  Size: SH
  6. Install the compressor hose assembly at the rear of the compressor.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose bolt to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  8. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Install the compressor hose (2) to the condenser.
  12. Install the compressor hose nut .
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  14. Install the compressor hose (1) to the accumulator.
  15. Install the compressor hose nut onto the accumulator.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (11 lb ft).

  17. Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  18. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
  19. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.8L

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  3. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  5. Remove the compressor hose nut (1) from the accumulator and position the line aside.

  6. Object Number: 412103  Size: SH
  7. Remove the compressor hose line nut (2) from the condenser and position the line aside.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  9. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.

  10. Object Number: 369041  Size: SH
  11. Remove the nut from the compressor hose assembly at the compressor.

  12. Object Number: 369044  Size: SH
  13. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the rear of the compressor.
  14. Important: Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.

  15. Remove the compressor hose assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the compressor hose assembly.
  2. Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  3. Install new O-ring seals onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .
  4. Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly.

  6. Install the compressor hose assembly to the rear of the compressor.

  7. Object Number: 369041  Size: SH

  8. Install the compressor hose nut .
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  10. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Install the compressor hose line (2) to the condenser.
  14. Install the compressor line nut.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Install the compressor hose (1) to the accumulator.
  17. Install the compressor hose nut to the accumulator.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  19. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  20. Inspect the A/C system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
  21. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  22. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
