Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.1L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Control -
3.1L.
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the compressor
hose line nut (1) from the accumulator and position the line aside.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in
Engine Electrical.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the compressor
hose nut (2) from the condenser and position the line aside.
Important: Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.
- Remove the compressor hose bolt at the compressor.
- Remove the compressor hose assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the compressor hose assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: Lubricate the new O-rings and sealing washers with mineral base 525
viscosity refrigerant oil.
- Install the new O-rings onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement
.
- Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly.
- Install the compressor
hose assembly at the rear of the compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose bolt to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the compressor
hose (2) to the condenser.
- Install the compressor hose nut .
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the compressor
hose (1) to the accumulator.
- Install the compressor hose nut onto the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Evacuate and recharge the system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to
Leak Testing
.
- Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls -
3.1L.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in
Engine Electrical.
Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.8L
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in
Engine Electrical.
- Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the compressor
hose nut (1) from the accumulator and position the line aside.
- Remove the compressor
hose line nut (2) from the condenser and position the line aside.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the nut from the
compressor hose assembly at the compressor.
- Remove the compressor
hose assembly from the rear of the compressor.
Important: Remove and discard all the used O-rings and sealing washers.
- Remove the compressor hose assembly.
Installation Procedure
- Install the compressor hose assembly.
Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
- Install new O-ring seals onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement
.
- Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly.
- Install the compressor
hose assembly to the rear of the compressor.

- Install the compressor
hose nut .
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Install the lower air deflector. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the compressor
hose line (2) to the condenser.
- Install the compressor line nut.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor line nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the compressor
hose (1) to the accumulator.
- Install the compressor hose nut to the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Inspect the A/C system for leaks. Refer to
Leak Testing
.
- Install the air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in
Engine Electrical.
