Removal Procedure

Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.


    Object Number: 50611  Size: SH
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Drain fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  3. Notice: Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in the Preface section.

  4. Raise the vehicle.
  5. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  6. Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  7. Note strainer (3) position for future reference.

  8. Object Number: 54511  Size: SH
  9. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand.
  10. Using a screwdriver to pry the strainer ferrule off the reservoir.
  11. Discard the strainer.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 50636  Size: SH
  1. Install the new strainer to reservoir.
  2. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the strainer (4) with the other hand twisting the strainer into position.
  3. Reinstall the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  4. Reinstall the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement Removal Procedure.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Add fuel and reinstall the fuel fill cap.
  7. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in engine electrical.
  8. Inspect for leaks.
  9. 8.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    8.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    8.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    8.4. Check for fuel leaks.
