Lead is the deviation of the vehicle from a straight path, on a level road, without hand pressure on the steering wheel.

Lead is usually caused by the following:

    • Tire construction. Refer to Tire and Wheel Specifications in Tires and Wheels.
    • Uneven brake adjustment. Refer to Brake System Diagnosis in Hydraulic Brakes.
    • Wheel alignment.

The way in which a tire is built may produce lead. Rear tires will not cause lead.
