Rear Wheel Spindle Rod Replacement Rear
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support
the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the rod to knuckle bolt (3) and washer.
- Remove the rod nut (7) at the rear suspension support.
- Push the bolt (6) forward enough to provide rod removal clearance.
- Remove the rear wheel rear spindle rod (2).
Installation Procedure
- Install the rear wheel
rear spindle rod (2).
- Push the bolt (6) rearward through the rod bushing.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rod
nut (7) at the rear suspension support.
Tighten
Tighten the rear wheel spindle rear rod to the suspension support nut
to 150 N·m (111 lb ft).
- Install the rod to knuckle
bolt (4) using thread locker, GM P/N 1052624 (or equivalent).
Tighten
Tighten the rod to knuckle bolt to 240 N·m (177 lb ft).
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the toe. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
in Wheel Alignment.
Rear Wheel Spindle Rod Replacement Front
Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support
the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the brake lines from the rear suspension support. Refer
to
Rear Brake Hose Replacement
in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Remove the rod to knuckle bolt (3) and washer.
- Lower and support the fuel tank just enough for bolt access at
the rod to frame. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
in Engine Controls -- 3.1L or
Fuel Tank Replacement
in Engine Controls --
3.8L.
- Remove the bolt and the nut at the rear suspension support.
- Remove the (front) rear wheel spindle rod.
Installation Procedure
- Install the (front) rear
wheel spindle rod.
- Install the bolt and the nut to the frame. DO NOT tighten the
bolt at this time.

replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant

- Install the bolt
(3) and nut at the knuckle using thread locker, GM P/N 1052624 (or
equivalent).
Tighten
Tighten the wheel spindle rod to suspension support nut to 150 N·m
(111 lb ft).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to knuckle to 240 N·m (177 lb ft).
- Install the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
in Engine Controls -- 3.1L or
Fuel Tank Replacement
in Engine Controls --
3.8L.
- Install the brake lines to rear suspension support. Refer to
Rear Brake Hose Replacement
in
Hydraulic Brakes.
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Adjust the toe-in. Refer to
Front Toe Adjustment
in Wheel Alignment.
