Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 179293  Size: SH
  3. Remove the brake pedal push rod retaining clip (3) at the brake pedal.
  4. Remove the brake pedal nut (10) and bolt (9).
  5. Remove the brake pedal (5).
  6. Remove the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .
  7. Remove the cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.
  8. Remove the wiring harness clips from the bracket.

  10. Remove the brake pedal bracket upper mounting nuts to cross car beam.
  11. Remove the brake pedal bracket upper mounting bolts to cross car beam.
  12. Remove the brake pedal bracket lower mounting bolts to reinforcement bracket.
  13. Remove the brake pedal bracket.
  14. Inspect all components for wear. Repair or replace the worn parts as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake pedal bracket (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the brake pedal bracket lower mounting bolts to the reinforcement bracket.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the reinforcement bracket bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  5. Install the brake pedal upper mounting bolts to the cross car beam.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the upper mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the brake pedal bracket upper mounting nuts to the cross car beam.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pedal bracket upper mounting nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  9. Install the wiring harness clips to the bracket.
  10. Install the cruise control switch (if equipped). Refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.
  11. Install the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .
  12. Install the brake pedal (5).
  13. Install the brake pedal mounting nut (10) and the bolt (9).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pedal mounting nut and bolt to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  15. Install the brake pedal push rod retaining clip (3) at the brake pedal.
  16. Install the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  17. Adjust the stoplamp switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment .
