The Supplemental Inflatable
Restraint (SIR) system
supplements the protection that the following restraint systems provide:
| • | The driver and the front passenger seat belts (2) |
| | The air bag provides protection from the following locations: |
| - | The front center of the steering wheel |
| - | The top of the right side instrument panel |
The air bag (1) deploys when the vehicle is involved in a frontal
crash of sufficient force up to 30 degrees off the centerline of the vehicle.
In order to further absorb the crash energy a knee bolster (3)
is located beneath the instrument panel for both the driver and the passenger.
The steering column is collapsible. Refer to Restraints.
