The courtesy lights are composed of the following lamps:
• | The dome lamp |
• | The inside rearview mirror reading lights |
The courtesy lights operate under the following conditions:
• | When any door is open |
• | When the instrument panel dimmer switch is in the DOME position |
The dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights receive voltage continuously from fuse 28 through CKT 240. The dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights receive ground from the headlamp switch through CKT 156.
The headlamp switch grounds CKT 156 when any door lock grounds CKT 49, or when receiving a voltage signal from the instrument panel dimmer switch. The door lock (of the corresponding open door) grounds CKT 49, when a door is open. When the instrument panel dimmer switch is in the DOME position, the switch sends a voltage signal to the headlamp switch. The inside rearview mirror reading lamps have 2 switches. These switches, one for each light, allow individual light operation anytime. These switches provide ground to their corresponding light through CKT 150, when turned to the ON position.
The headlamp switch has a timer.
The timer turns OFF the dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights (by opening CKT 156) under the following conditions:
• | When the instrument panel dimmer switch is left in the DOME position |
• | When any door is left open for over 10 minutes |
Ensure that the inside rearview mirror reading lights switches are turned OFF in order to avoid draining the battery. The inside rearview mirror reading lights switches are not covered by the battery rundown protection.
The headlamp switch controls the sustained interior lighting feature. The headlamp switch keeps the courtesy lights ON for 16 seconds, gradually dimming OFF after all the vehicle doors are closed and the ignition switch is in the OFF position. The sustained interior lighting is canceled when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or START position during the 16 second interval.
The remote control door lock receiver turns ON the courtesy lights (by grounding CKT 49) for 38-42 seconds when the vehicle doors are unlocked by a keyless entry transmitter (if equipped). This confirms a remote door locking.
Anytime the mirror cover is open, the sunshade illuminated mirror lamps illuminate. The mirror cover switch receives voltage at all times from fuse 28 through CKT 240. The sunshade illuminated mirrors lamps are connected to ground at all times through its case assembly. The mirror cover switch closes with the mirror cover open, turning ON the sunshade illuminated mirror lamps.
Ensure that the mirror cover is closed in order to avoid draining the battery. The sunshade illuminated mirror lamps are not covered by the battery rundown protection.
Anytime the instrument panel compartment is open, the instrument panel compartment lamp illuminates. The instrument panel compartment lamp receives voltage at all times from fuse 28 through CKT 240. The instrument panel compartment lamp receives ground from the instrument panel compartment lamp switch through CKT 175. The instrument panel compartment lamp switch closes with the instrument panel compartment open, turning ON the instrument panel compartment lamp. Ensure that the instrument panel compartment is closed in order to avoid draining the battery. The instrument panel compartment lamp is not covered by the battery run down protection.
Anytime the rear compartment lid is open, the rear compartment lamp illuminates. The rear compartment lamp receives voltage at all times from fuse 28 through CKT 240. The rear compartment lamp receives ground from the rear compartment lid ajar switch through CKT 744. The rear compartment lid ajar switch closes with the rear compartment lid open, turning ON the rear compartment lamp. Ensure that the rear compartment lid is closed in order to avoid draining the battery. The rear compartment lamp is not covered by the battery rundown protection.
