Notice: Proper stoplamp switch adjustment is essential. Improper stoplamp switch
adjustment could cause brake drag and excessive brake lining wear.
- Remove the left side instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement
in Instrument panel,Gauges and
Console.
- Depress the brake pedal fully.
Important: The cruise control release switch and the stoplamp switch are adjusted
together. Incorrect adjustment may cause incorrect operation of the cruise
control system. Refer to
Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment
in Brakes.
- Push the switches into
the retainers until the switches are fully seated.
- Pull the brake pedal fully
rearward against the brake pedal stop until audible clicks can no longer be
heard.
- Verify that the following brake pedal travel specifications are
accurate. The cruise control release switch and the stoplamp switch are correctly
adjusted if the brake pedal travel meets the following specifications:
• | The cruise control release switch and stoplamp switch contacts
are open at 3.5-12.5 mm (1/8-1/2 in) of brake pedal
travel. Measure travel at the centerline of the brake pedal pad. |
• | The nominal actuation of the stoplamp switch contacts is approximately
4.5 mm (3/16 in) after the cruise control switch contacts close. |
- Install the left side instrument panel insulator panel. Refer
to
Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement
in Instrument panel,Gauges
and Console.
