Removal Procedure

The rear wheel hub and bearing are non-serviceable. If either one is damaged, you must replace the complete hub and bearing assembly.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove one of the following components:
  4. • Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
    • Remove the rotor (Disc only). Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  5. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor harness and the electrical connector. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement in Antilock Brake System.

  7. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts (2).
  8. Remove the rear wheel hub (3) and bearing from the knuckle (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear wheel hub (3) and the bearing to the knuckle (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the rear wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear wheel hub mounting bolts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  5. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor harness and electrical connector. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement in Antilock Brake System.
  6. Install one of the following components:
  7. • Install the brake drum . Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
    • Install the rotor (Disc only). Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement in Disc Brakes.
  8. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
