The purpose of this procedure is to pinpoint the location of the leak.

In some cases, the leak is easily located.Seepage-leaks are often more difficult to isolate. In order to locate seepage leaks, use the following procedure:

  1. Ensure that the engine is off.
  2. Wipe dry the complete power steering system.
  3. Fill the power steering system.Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  4. Start the engine.
  5. Important:  Do not hold the steering wheel at a stop for any length of time. This may damage the power steering pump.

  6. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times. This procedure is easier to perform if the following conditions exist:
  7. • An assistant operates the steering wheel
    • You inspect for the seepage
  8. Locate the exact area of the leak.
  9. Repair the leak.
