Setting the Clock for Systems Without Automatic Tone Control

  1. Press SET.
  2. SET will appear on the display for 5 seconds.

  3. Press and hold the right arrow on the SEEK button until the correct minute appears, within 5 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the left arrow on the SEEK button until the correct hour appears.

Setting the Clock for Systems with Automatic Tone Control

  1. Press and hold HR until the correct hour appears.
  2. Press and hold MN until the correct minute appears.

Playing the Radio

    • VOLUME
        The VOLUME knob turns the system on and off and controls the volume.
       - Rotate the knob clockwise in order to turn the radio on or increase the volume.
       - Rotate the knob counterclockwise in order to turn the radio off or decrease the volume.
    • RECALL
        The RECALL knob displays the time and the radio station.
       - Press the knob in order to display the time with the ignition off.
       - Press the knob in order to display the radio station frequency while the radio is playing.

Finding a Station

    • AM-FM
        Press the lower knob in order to switch between AM and FM. The display will show the selection.
    • TUNE
        Turn the lower knob in order to choose radio stations.
    • SEEK
       - Press the right arrow in order the choose the next higher station.
       - Press the left arrow in order to choose the next lower station.
    • SCAN
        The radio will tune in a station for a few seconds and go on to the next station. The radio will scan up or down the radio band, depending on which arrow is pressed first.
        1. Press and hold one of the SEEK arrows.
        2. Press and hold the other SEEK arrow.

SCAN will appear on the display.

        3. Press both of the SEEK arrows or the upper knob in order to stop scanning.
    • PUSHBUTTONS
        The four numbered pushbuttons allow the owner to return to the programmed stations. The owner may program as many as 14 stations (7 AM and 7 FM).
        1. Press the AM-FM in order to select the band.
        2. Tune into the desired station.
        3. Press SET.

SET will appear on the display.

        4. Press and hold one of the 4 numbered buttons.

Within 5 seconds the sound will mute.

        5. Release the button when the sound returns.
        6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each pushbutton.
        7. Tune into the desired station.
        8. Press SET.

SET will appear on the display.

        9. Press any of the 2 adjoining pushbuttons at the same time.

Within 5 seconds the sound will mute.

        10. Release the buttons when the sound returns.
        11. Repeat steps 7-10

Setting the Tone

    • BASS
        Slide the lever up or down in order to increase or decrease the bass.
    • TREB
        Slide the lever up or down in order to increase or decrease the treble.
        Decrease the treble if a station is weak or noisy.

Adjusting the Speakers

    • BAL
        Turn the control behind the upper knob in order to move the sound to the left or the right speakers. The middle position balances the sound between the speakers.
    • FADE
        Turn the control behind the lower knob in order to move the sound to the front or the rear speakers. The middle position balances the sound between the speakers.

Playing the Radio

    • VOL
       - Press the VOL knob in order to turn the system on and off.
       - Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the volume.
       - Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to decrease the volume.
       - The knob is capable of rotating continuously.
    • RECALL
        The RECALL knob displays the time and the radio station.
       - Press the knob in order to display the time with the ignition off.
       - Press the knob in order to display the radio station frequency while the radio is playing.
    • SCV
        This system has the feature called Speed-Compensated-Volume (SCV). The SCV audio system adjusts automatically in order to compensate for road and wind noise while driving.
        1. Set the volume to the desired level.
        2. Move the control ring behind the upper knob clockwise in order to adjust the SCV.
        3. Turn the control ring all of the way counterclockwise in order to turn the SCV off.

Each detent on the control ring allows for more compensation at a faster rate.

Finding a Station

    • AM-FM
        Press the button switch between AM, FM1 and FM2. The display shows the selection.
    • TUNE
        Turn the lower knob in order to choose radio stations.
    • SEEK
       - Press the right arrow in order to choose the next higher station.
       - Press the left arrow in order to choose the next lower station.
    • SCAN
        The radio will tune in a station for a few seconds and go on to the next station. The radio will scan up or down the radio band depending on which arrow is pressed first.
        1. Press and hold the SEEK button.

SCAN will appear on the display.

        2. Press the SEEK button again in order to stop scanning.

The sound will mute while scanning.

    • PUSHBUTTONS
        The six numbered pushbuttons allow the owner to return to programmed stations. The owner may program up to 18 stations (6 AM, 6 FM1 and 6 FM2). Use the following steps in order to program the pushbuttons:
        1. Press AM-FM in order to select the band.
        2. Tune to the desired station.
        3. Press AUTO TONE in order to select the appropriate equalization for the type of station selected.
        4. Press and hold one of the six numbered buttons.

Within five seconds the sound will mute.

        5. Release the button when the sound returns.
        6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each pushbutton.

Whenever a pushbutton is pressed the station which has been set will return and the AUTO TONE equalization selected will also be applied.

    • P.SCAN
        The radio will scan through each of the stations that is stored on the pushbuttons, except for those with a weak reception. The AUTO TONE setting store for each pushbutton will automatically be chosen as well.
        P.SCAN will be displayed whenever the tuner is in the P.SCAN mode. The channel number (P1-P6) will appear momentarily just before the frequency is displayed. In the FM mode, this function will scan through both FM1 and FM2 preset stations. FM1 and FM2 will appear on the display.
        1. Press the P.SCAN button in order to listen to each of the programmed stations stored on the pushbuttons for a few seconds.
        2. Use one of the following controls in order to stop scanning:
   • P.SCAN
   • One of the pushbuttons
   • SEEK
   • The upper knob

Setting the Tone

  1. BASS
  2. When you set the BASS feature, the AUTO TONE setting will switch to manual.

    1.1. Press the bass knob lightly in order for the knob to extend.
    1.2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase bass.
    1.3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to decrease the bass.
    1.4. Press the knob back into the stored position.
  3. TREB
  4. When you set the TREBLE, feature the AUTO TONE setting will switch to manual.

    2.1. Press the treble knob lightly in order for the knob to extend.
    2.2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the treble.
    2.3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to decrease the treble.
    2.4. Press the knob back into the stored position.
  5. AUTO TONE
  6. The AUTO TONE feature allows for preset bass and treble equalization settings designed for the following station types:

    • Classical
    • News
    • Rock
    • Pop
    • Country/Western
    • Jazz
    • In order to set the AUTO TONE use the following steps:
    3.1. Press the AUTO TONE button. C/W will appear on the display.

    Each time AUTO TONE is pressed another setting will appear.

    3.2. Press AUTO TONE after JAZZ appears and the AUTO TONE display will end.

    Also, pressing BASS or TREB will cause the AUTO TONE display to end.

Adjusting the Speakers

    • BAL
        The BAL button balances the sound between the left and right speakers.
        1. Press the BAL knob lightly in order for the knob to extend.
        2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the sound from the right speakers.
        3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to increase the sound from the left speakers.

The middle position balances the sound between the speakers.

        4. Press the knob back into the stored position.
    • FADE
        The FADE button balances the sound between the front and rear speakers.
        1. Press the FADE knob lightly in order for the knob to extend.
        2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the sound from the front speakers.
        3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to increase the sound from the rear speakers.

The middle position balances the sound between the speakers.

        4. Press the knob back into the stored position.

Playing a Cassette Tape

    • The tape player is built to work best with 30 to 45 minute tapes. Longer tapes are thin and may not work well in the player.
    • A tape symbol is shown in the center of the graphic display when a tape is inserted.
    • If a tape is inserted when the ignition is ON and the radio is OFF, the tape will begin playing.
    • When a tape is active, the tape symbol is accompanied by a direction arrow.
    • Use the following radio controls while the tape is playing:
       - VOL
       - AUTO TONE
       - BAL
       - FADE
       - BASS
       - TREB
       - Other controls may have different functions when a tape is inserted.
    • The following actions will occur if a tight or broken tape is detected:
        1. The tape player will eject the tape.
        2. The radio will resume playing.
    • Complete the following steps if there is no sound or the sound is garbled:
        1. Press EJECT in order to remove the tape
        2. Push the tape back into the player.
    • The tape player automatically senses the cartridge for metal or CrO2 and sets the pre-emphasis.
    • The top side of the tape will play first when the tape is inserted.
        The following controls are available:
    • PREV (1)
        The PREV button searches for the previous selection on the tape. The tape must have at least three seconds of silence between each selection in order for the PREV or the SEEK controls to operate.
        1. Press the PREV button or the SEEK left arrow.

The tape direction arrow will blink and the sound will mute.

        2. Press the PREV button or a SEEK arrow in order to return to normal play.
    • PROG (2)
        Press the PROG button in order to play the other side of the tape.
    • NEXT (3)
        The NEXT button searches for the next selection on the tape. The tape must have at least three seconds of silence between each selection in order for the NEXT or the SEEK controls to operate.
        1. Press the NEXT button or the SEEK right arrow.

The tape direction arrow will blink and the sound will mute.

        2. Hold the button down or press the button more than once in order to continue moving forward through the tape.
        3. Press the NEXT button or a SEEK arrow in order to return to normal play.
    • REV (4)
        The REV button reverses the tape rapidly.
        1. Press the REV button.

The radio will play the last selected station while the tape reverses.

        2. Press the button again in order to resume normal playing speed.
    • DOLBY® (5)
        The DOLBY® button reduces the background noise. The double-D will appear on the display.

    • FWD (6)
        The FWD button advances quickly to another part of the tape.
        1. Press the FWD button.

The radio will play the last selected station while the tape advances.

        2. Press the button again in order to resume normal playing speed.
    • AM-FM
        Press this button in order to play the radio when a tape is in the player.
    • TAPE AUX
        The TAPE AUX button changes the tape function while the radio is playing.
        1. Press the TAPE AUX button.

The tape symbol with an arrow will appear on the display when the tape is active.

        2. Press the button a second time in order for the remote device to play, if equipped.
    • EJECT
        Press the EJECT button in order to remove the tape.
        The EJECT control may be activated with either the ignition or the radio off. Cassettes may be loaded with the radio off if the EJECT button is pressed first.
    • CLN
        The cassette tape player needs to be cleaned if the CLN message appears on the display.
        The tape player will still operate without cleaning, but damage to the tapes or player may result. Refer to Cassette Player Care and Cleaning

Playing the Radio

    • VOL
       - Press this knob in order to turn the system on and off.
       - Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the volume.
       - Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to decrease the volume.
       - The knob is capable of rotating continuously.

       - Press the knob in order to display the time with the ignition off.
       - Press the knob in order to display the radio station frequency while the radio is playing.
    • SCV

        1. Press AM-FM in order to select the band.

        3. Press AUTO TONE in order to select the equalization which the type of station selected.
        4. Press and hold one of the 6 numbered buttons.

Within five seconds the sound will mute.

        5. Release the button when the sound returns.
        6. Repeat steps 1-5 for each pushbutton

Whenever a pushbutton is pressed the station which has been set will return and the AUTO TONE equalization selected will also be applied.

    • P.SCAN
        The radio will scan through each of the stations stored on the pushbuttons with a strong reception. The AUTO TONE setting store for each pushbutton will automatically be chosen as well.
        P.SCAN will be displayed whenever the tuner is in the P.SCAN mode. The channel number (P1-P6) will appear momentarily just before the frequency is displayed. In the FM mode, this function will scan through both FM1 and FM2 preset stations. FM1 and FM2 will appear on the display.
        1. Press the P.SCAN button in order to listen to each of the programmed stations stored on the pushbuttons for a few seconds.
        2. Use one of the following controls in order to stop scanning:
       - P.SCAN
       - One of the pushbuttons
       - SEEK
       - The upper knob

Setting the Tone

  4. When you set the TREBLE feature the AUTO TONE setting will switch to manual.

    2.1. Press the treble knob lightly in order to extend the knob.
    2.2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the treble.
    2.3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to decrease the treble.
    2.4. Press the knob back into the stored position.
  5. AUTO TONE
  6. The AUTO TONE feature allows for preset bass and treble equalization settings designed for the following station types:

    • Classical
    • News
    • Rock
    • Pop
    • Country/Western
    • Jazz
    • In order to set the AUTO TONE use the following steps:
    3.1. Press the AUTO TONE button. C/W will appear on the display.

    Each time AUTO TONE is pressed, another setting will appear.

    • FADE

        1. Press the FADE knob lightly in order to extend the knob.
        2. Turn the knob clockwise in order to increase the sound from the front speakers.
        3. Turn the knob counterclockwise in order to increase the sound from the rear speakers.

The middle position balances the sound between the speakers.

        4. Press the knob back into the stored position.

Playing a Compact Disc

    • Insert a disc partway into the slot, label side up. The player will pull the disc the rest of the way in.
        CD and a CD symbol will appear on the display.
    • PREV (1)
        PREV returns the CD to the start of the current track.
        1. Press the PREV or the left SEEK arrow.
        2. Press the button again or hold the button in order to continue moving back through the disc.

The sound will mute while seeking.

    • RDM (2)
        The RDM control plays the tracks in random, rather than sequential, order.
        1. Press the RDM button in order to activate.
        2. Press the RDM button again in order to turn the RDM off.

The RDM is reset when the disc is ejected.

    • NEXT (3)
        The NEXT control will move the CD to the next track.
        1. Press the NEXT button or the right SEEK arrow.
        2. Press the button again or hold the button in order to continue moving forward through the disc.

The sound will mute while seeking.

    • REV (4)
        The REV control reverses the CD quickly within the track.
        1. Press and hold the REV button.
        2. Release the button in order to play the passage.

The counter reading on the display will locate a passage more easily.

    • FWD (5)
        The FWD control advances the CD within a track.
        1. Press and hold the FWD button.
        2. Release the button in order to play the passage.

The counter reading on the display will locate a passage more easily.

    • AM-FM
        Press the AM-FM button in order to play the radio when a disc is in the player.
        CD will no longer appear on the display.
    • CD AUX
        Press the CD AUX button in order to change to the disc function while the radio is on.
        A CD icon will appear on the display when the disc is in the player, whether the disc is active or not.
    • EJECT
        Press the EJECT button in order to remove the disc.
        The radio will resume playing. The disc will start at the first track when you reinsert the disc. The player will pull the disc back into the player under the following conditions:
      • You press the EJECT button
      • You fail to remove the disc from the player

If the ignition or the radio is turned off with the disc inserted, the disc will resume playing when you restart the ignition or the radio.

The following conditions may cause the disc not to play and the ERR (error) message to display:

    • The road is rough
    • The temperature is very hot

Press the RECALL button in order to reset the player.

The disc may automatically eject under the following conditions:

    • The disc is upside down.
    • The disc is dirty.
    • The disc is scratched.
    • The disc is wet.
    • The weather is humid.
        If the weather is humid, wait an hour before trying again.
