Battery Cable Replacement Positive

Removal Procedure

Important: When replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge and length.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 513051  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 513739  Size: SH
  5. Remove the remote positive stud cover.

  6. Object Number: 513740  Size: SH
  7. Remove the battery positive cable junction block lead nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  8. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  9. Object Number: 473052  Size: SH
  10. Remove the battery positive cable nut (8) and disconnect the battery positive cable (9) from the starter motor BAT terminal.

  11. Object Number: 513769  Size: SH
  12. Remove the battery cable retainers (2,3,4) from the frame.
  13. Remove the battery positive cable from the wiring harness conduit .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery positive cable into the wiring harness conduit.

  2. Object Number: 513769  Size: SH
  3. Install the battery cable retainers (2,3,4) to the frame.

  4. Object Number: 473052  Size: SH
  5. Install the battery positive cable (9) to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the starter motor BAT terminal nut (8).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the starter motor switch BAT terminal nut (8) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Install the battery positive cable (2) and the battery positive cable junction block lead nut (1) to the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable junction block lead nut (1) to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  13. Install the remote positive stud cover.

  14. Object Number: 513051  Size: SH
  15. Install the battery positive cable to the battery.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  17. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Cable Replacement Negative

Removal Procedure

Important: When replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge and length.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 513056  Size: SH
  3. Remove the battery negative cable bolt and the battery ground negative cable from the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  5. Object Number: 473052  Size: SH
  6. Remove the transaxle stud nut (3) and disconnect the battery ground negative cable (4) from the transaxle stud.

  7. Object Number: 513769  Size: SH
  8. Remove the battery cable retainers (2,3,4) from the frame.
  9. Remove the battery ground negative cable from the wiring harness conduit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery ground negative cable into the wiring harness conduit.

  2. Object Number: 513769  Size: SH
  3. Install the battery cable retainers (2,3,4) to the frame.

  4. Object Number: 473052  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Install the battery ground negative cable (4) and the transaxle stud nut (3) to the transaxle stud.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle stud nut (3) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Connect the battery ground negative cable and the battery negative cable bolt to the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  11. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
