Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the right instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  2. Remove the instrument panel compartment screws and compartment.

    3. Object Number: 708587 Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the two vacuum lines from the defroster actuator (3).

    4. The defroster actuator is seen on the right side of the IP compartment opening. It has a yellow vacuum line attached to the passenger compartment side and a red vacuum line on the windshield side of the actuator.

  4. Disconnect the orange vacuum line from the recirculation actuator and install a hand vacuum pump (2).
  5. Remove the defroster actuator from its attachment to the HVAC module case.
  6. Using the hand vacuum pump (2) open the recirculation actuator door.
  7. Rotate the defroster actuator to the right and up into the opening between the back of the dash and the opening into the HVAC module. The opening which results when the recirculation actuator door is in the full open position.
  8. Disconnect the defroster actuator from the defroster door arm.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 708587 Size: SH
  1. Install the defroster actuator to the defroster door arm and snap into place on the HVAC module.
  2. Connect the vacuum line to the actuator.
  3. Remove the hand vacuum pump  (2) and reinstall the vacuum line to the recirculation actuator.

    4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the instrument panel compartment and attachment screws.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the instrument panel compartment screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the right instrument insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
