The rearview mirror is attached to a rearview mirror support that is bonded to the windshield. This rearview mirror support is installed by the windshield supplier using a plastic-polyvinyl butyl adhesive.

Use the following items in order to install a detached rearview mirror support or a new rearview mirror:

    • Loctite® Minute-Bond Adhesive 312 two component pack P/N 1052369 or equivalent
    • The original factory installed rearview mirror support (prepared per steps 4 and 5 of the Installation Procedure) or replacement rearview mirror support
    • A wax marking pencil or crayon
    • Isopropyl alcohol
    • A clean paper towel
    • A fine grit emery cloth or sandpaper (320 or 360)

Installation Procedure

  1. Measure from the top of the windshield to the top of the rearview mirror support (2) in order to determine the rearview mirror support position on the windshield.

  2. Object Number: 293124  Size: SH
  3. Mark the location on the outside of the windshield with a wax pencil or crayon.
  4. Draw a larger diameter circle (3) around the rearview mirror support circle on the outside windshield surface.

  5. Use GM Glass Cleaner GM P/N 1050427 or polishing compound on a paper towel on the inside of the windshield surface in order to clean the large circle. Rub until the area is completely clean and dry. Allow to air dry.
  6. When dry, clean the area with an isopropyl alcohol saturated paper towel in order to remove any traces of scouring powder or cleaning solution.
  7. Important: If the original factory installed rearview mirror support is to be reused, all traces of factory installed adhesive must be removed prior to reinstallation.

  8. With a piece of fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper, sand the bonding surface of the new rearview mirror support or the original factory installed rearview mirror support.
  9. Wipe the sanded rearview mirror support with a clean paper towel saturated with isopropyl alcohol. Allow to dry.
  10. Follow the directions on the manufacturer's kit in order to prepare the rearview mirror support prior to installation on the windshield.
  11. Properly position the rearview mirror support to the premarked location. With the rounded end pointed upward, press the rearview mirror support against the windshield for 30-60 seconds exerting steady pressure against the windshield.
  12. After 5 minutes any excess adhesive may be removed with an isopropyl alcohol moistened paper towel or window cleaning solution.

  13. Reinstall the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement .
