A permanent magnet (PM) motor operates each of the power windows. Each motor raises or lowers the glass when the proper voltage is supplied. The direction the motor turns depends on the polarity of the supply voltage which is controlled by the window switches.

Each motor is protected by a built-in circuit breaker. If a window switch is held too long with the window obstructed or after the window is fully up or down the circuit breaker opens the circuit . The circuit breaker resets only after voltage is removed from the motor and the circuit breaker cools.

Left Front Switch Operation

Battery voltage is applied to the left front window switch through the retained accessory power circuit breaker and the power window battery feed circuit when the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACCY position.

Battery voltage is applied to the window regulator motor through the window control circuit and then through the directional drive circuit when any of the UP switches in the left front window switch are operated. The window regulator motor is grounded through the down contact in the left front window switch. The motor runs to drive the window up.

Battery voltage is applied to the window regulator motor in the down direction when any of the down switches in the left front window switch are operated. The window regulator motor is grounded through the up contact in the left front window switch. The motor runs to drive the window down.

Window Switch Operation

Battery voltage is applied to the window switches through the retained accessory power circuit breaker and the power window battery feed circuit to the left front window switch and then through the lockout control circuit to all the switches when the ignition switch is in the ACCY or RUN position.

Battery voltage to raise the window is applied to the window regulator motor through the directional drive circuit when the window switch is pressed in the UP position. The motor is grounded through the down directional drive circuit in the window switch and the down contact in the left front window switch. The motor runs to drive the window up.

Battery voltage to lower the window is applied to the window regulator motor in the opposite direction through the down directional drive circuit . The motor is grounded through the UP directional drive circuit for the window and the up contact in the left front window switch. The motor runs to drive the window down.
