    • J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor
    • J 42137 Steering Column Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 330127  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  3. Remove the turn signal switch multifunction. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .
  4. Remove the bearing retainer (1) using J 23653-SIR and J 42137 .

  5. Object Number: 318239  Size: SH
  6. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (5).
  7. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4).
  8. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).
  9. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2).
  10. Remove the inner race (1).

  11. Object Number: 664269  Size: SH
  12. Slide the switch mounting bracket off of the steering column shaft assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 664269  Size: SH

    Important: The switch mounting bracket must be pressed firmly against the steering column tilt head in order for the screws from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly screws to line up.

  1. Slide the switch mounting bracket onto the steering column shaft assembly.
  2. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 324864  Size: SH
  4. Install the inner race (4).
  5. Install the upper bearing inner race seat (3).
  6. Install the upper bearing spring (2).
  7. Lubricate the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1) with GM P/N 12377900 (Canadian P/N 10953529).
  8. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (1).

  9. Object Number: 324866  Size: SH
  10. Center the race and upper shaft assembly (1) to the 12 o'clock position (2).

  11. Object Number: 325109  Size: SH
  12. Install the shaft lock shield assembly (2).
  13. Important: The bearing retainer must be firmly seated in the groove on the race and upper shaft assembly (3).

  14. Install the bearing retainer (1) using J 42137 and J 42137 .
  15. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
