Starting June 7, 2004 and for the next 90 days, General Motors will conduct a Parts Restriction on all 2000 through 2003 model year cars with the 3800 V6 engine (RPO L36, VIN Code K).
Warranty parts returns have revealed a significant amount if misdiagnosis being performed and that procedures provided in Corporate Bulletin Number 03-06-01-016 are not being fully utilized. Returned parts indicate that the upper manifold kit is being installed when just the gaskets need to be replaced.
The upper intake manifold should not be replaced for a coolant leak condition unless a rare instance of physical damage is found.
