J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
- Remove the front seats. Refer to the following procedures in Seats:
- Remove the front floor center console, if equipped. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
- Remove the front seat carpet retainers. Refer to
Front Carpet Retainer Replacement
.
- For the Impala, remove the following components:
- Remove the rear lower quarter trim panel. Refer to
Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement
.
- Using J 38778
, remove the push-in retainers that secure the carpet on top of the rocker panels.
- Remove the carpet from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Caution: In order to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage when you repair or replace the carpet, use the same thickness and material size as the original installation. Always return the carpet to the original location.
- Install the carpet into the vehicle.
Reach under the carpet and feed the following connectors through the slits in the carpet where required:
• | The power seat adjusters |
• | The center console power port |
• | The seat belt warning wire connector |
- Install the push-in retainers that secure the carpet on top of the rocker panels.
- Install the rear quarter lower trim. Refer to
Rear Quarter Lower Trim Panel Replacement

- For the Impala, install the following components:
- Install the front seat carpet retainers. Refer to
Front Carpet Retainer Replacement
.
- Install the rear seat cushion. Refer to
Rear Seat Cushion Replacement
in Seats.
- Install the front floor center console, if equipped. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Install the front seats. Refer to the following procedures in Seats:
