Important: Install the active fuel management (AFM) lifters in their original location, as they will only fit into the lifter guide one way. Do not force the AFM lifters into the lifter guide when installing. Use care and observe
the reference marks to avoid installing the AFM lifters backwards. Installing the AFM lifters backwards will lock the affected cylinder into AFM mode, causing the engine to run in AFM mode 100 percent of the time.
- To avoid installing the AFM lifters in backwards in the lifter guide, ensure that the retention slot in the lifter (2) is facing to the right when the lifter guide reference arrow (1) is facing forwards.
- Coat the AFM valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
- Install the AFM lifter into the AFM lifter guide by lowering the lifters into the guide, aligning the lifter retention slot in the lifter with the tab in the lifter guide, and sliding the lifter in the appropriate direction to secure the lifter in
the lifter guide.
- Install the AFM lifter and lifter guide assembly into the engine, ensuring that the reference arrow on the lifter guide is pointing towards the front of the engine.
- Coat the non AFM valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
- Install the non AFM valve lifters in their original locations.
- Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or the equivalent to the threads.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the non AFM valve lifter guides and guide bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the valve lifter guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
