Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1792786 Size: SH

    Important: The lifter oil manifold assembly (LOMA) connector must be disconnected from the lower intake manifold before removing the lower intake manifold.

  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  3. Remove the active fuel management (AFM) valve lifter guides and lifters as an assembly from the engine block.

    Important: Once removed, place the valve lifters in an organized order so the valve lifters can be installed into the original locations.

    Important: Confirm the arrow on the lifter and the arrow on the guide point to the front of the engine.

  4. Remove the AFM valve lifters from the valve lifter guides by sliding the lifter to the appropriate side and lifting out of the guide.

    5. Object Number: 1557686 Size: SH

    Important: Once removed, place the non AFM valve lifters in an organized order so the valve lifters can be installed into the original locations.

  5. Remove the non AFM valve lifter guide bolts.
  6. Remove the non AFM valve lifter guides.
  7. Remove the non AFM valve lifters.
  8. Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1792736 Size: SH

    Important: Confirm the arrow on the lifter and the arrow on the guide point to the front of the engine.

  1. To avoid installing the AFM lifters in backwards in the lifter guide, ensure the retention slot in the lifter (2) is facing to the right when the lifter guide reference arrow (1) is facing forward.

    2. Object Number: 1792739 Size: SH
  2. Coat the valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or equivalent.
  3. Install the AFM lifter into the lifter guide by lowering the lifter into the guide, aligning the lifter retention slot in the lifter with the tab in the lifter guide, and sliding the lifter in the appropriate direction to secure the lifter in the lifter guide.

  4. Install the lifter and lifter guide assembly into the engine, ensuring the reference arrow on the lifter guide and on the lifter outer body is pointing towards the front of the engine.

    5. Object Number: 54701 Size: SH
  5. Coat the non AFM valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or the equivalent.
  6. Install the non AFM valve lifters in their original locations.
  7. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or the equivalent to the threads.

    8. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  8. Install the non AFM valve lifter guides and guide bolts.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the valve lifter guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  10. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
